High tenacity, heavy denier nylon and polyester yarns for industrial applications are produced at Kordsa Global production sites all over the world. Both nylon 6.6 and nylon 6 yarns are the bulk of polyamide fiber commercially available. Nylon 6.6 is derived from adipic acid and hexamethylene diamine, where Nylon 6 is derived from caprolactam.
The production of Nylon 6.6 or Nylon 6 fibers needs rather complex operations. Both fibers are produced by melt spinning processes. The molten polyamide obtained either directly from the polymerization reactor system or by melting of polyamide chips extruding through a die or a spinneret.
The filaments emerging from the spinneret are cooled down and wetted with a finish oil for processibility and drawn as per the designed processing conditions to impart the aimed tensile, thermal and mechanical properties. The drawing of the filaments whether performed as a separate step or integrated into the spinning process is aimed to achieve the desired physical and mechanical properties. The drawn filaments are thermally treated and entangled to provide a cohesive bundle before they are wound into bobbins.
